Sivasagar Sivadol is located in the heart of Sivasagar city, which was known earlier as Sibsagar in the Sibsagar district of Upper Assam in Northeast India. Sivsagar, present-day Sivasagar, was the capital of the Ahom kingdom. The Ahoms had migrated from Yunnan and reached Assam in 1228 and established their first capital at Charaideo, 28 kilometers from present-day Sivasagar, in 1253. Till the 14th century, they were followers of the Ahom religion until they slowly started becoming Hindu, and by the 18th century, they were fully absorbed into Hinduism. Sivadol is surrounded by two subsidiary temples, Vishnudol (spelled as Bishnudol) and Devidol, which are architecturally similar to the larger Shiva temple. Vishnudol is dedicated to the god Vishnu; Devidol, also known as Joidol, is a goddess Durga temple. While the Vishnu temple's tower has a honeycomb design with an ornamental criss-cross framework, the Durga temple's tower is designed, in its vertical elevation, with an undulating pattern. Besides these, there is a temple of Ram and Hanuman.

The Kamakhya Temple is a Hindu temple at the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, Assam. Dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya, it is one of the oldest and most revered
centers of Tantric practices. The temple is the center of the Kulachara
Tantra Marga and the site of the Ambubachi Mela, an annual festival that celebrates the menstruation of the goddess. Structurally, the temple is
dated to the 8th-9th century with many subsequent rebuildings—and the
final hybrid architecture defines a local style called Nilachal. It is also one of the oldest of the 51 pithas in the Shakta tradition. An obscure place of worship for
much of history, it became an important pilgrimage destination, especially for
those from Bengal, in the 19th century during colonial
rule. Historians have suggested that the Kamakhya temple is an
ancient sacrificial site for an Austroasiatic tribal goddess, Kameikha of the Khasi and Garo peoples, supported by the folklore of
these very peoples. The traditional accounts from the Kalika Purana (10th century) and the Yogini Tantra too record that the goddess Kamakhya is of Kirata origin and that the worship of Kamakhya
predates the establishment of Kamarupa (4th century CE).
